Propaganda Pigeons of Peace

Perhaps due to her early exposure to East Asian animé, Vicki is drawn to strong composition and colour. Her interest in 20th century propaganda posters has helped to consolidate both this and her interest in political theory. And, after inspiring trips to Russia and China, she was driven to find a more contemporary interpretation of these powerful images.

Back in London, she found the benign enemy that she was looking for. Newspaper headlines denounced them. Instructions of their imposed starvation were issued by the municipal powers. Children shrieked as they boldly strutted past in their teeming armies. These invasive pigeons proudly prowled through the tourist hotspots; their numbers swelling; their presence overbearing. Gone were the days when they had meekly participated in human wars, obediently carrying messages through the gunfire. Here were the Propaganda Pigeons of Peace, their audacious behaviour mirroring the general greed and pomp of war and power. For Vicki, the imagery of this collection needed to capture the uplifting spirit of propaganda posters whilst highlighting the absurdity of media induced witch-hunts.
